Mineral Makeup Review : Physician’s Formula Eye Colors

After reading Jazmin’s comprehensive post about drugstore mineral makeup, I was inspired to check the eye colors that I have from Physician’s Formula. I was able to try them in two kinds : the Eyeshadow Quad, and Mineral Fluid Powder Eyeshadow.

Physician’s Formula Eyeshadow Quad
I have this in Earth Minerals, and the colors, when you look at them, are just beautiful. It has shades of nude-beige, medium bronze, earth green, and a plum shade. The colors complement each other, and are well-rounded for day and night eye makeup.

Ergonomics-wise, you might be dismayed when you see that there is no mirror, but all you have to do is flip the quad, where there is an opening, which includes a mirror and an eyeshadow applicator. In terms of quality, the colors are very pretty but when applied, don’t come pigmented. I’ve tried several mineral eyeshadows that are very very pigmented, and this one is really on the sheer end. For the shy, and conservative eye makeup girl, this might be a good quad ( and for your budding teenager sisters, too! ), but it would not perform enough for the pro’s who want it pigmented intense, and vivid.

Physician’s Formula Mineral Fluid Powder Eyeshadow
This product has a sponge applicator that when applied, is almost like semi-dry cream, and finishes off just like a powder finish, but only with added adhesion to the lids.

I was able to try this in Plum Garnet, and it is a beautiful semi shimmery color that turns out lovely on the crease area ( because it’s not that light, and not too dark either ). At first try, I really found it hard to blend because the fluid tends to dry out easily, but I discovered the trick on how to do it right - as soon as you swipe the fluid, use the sponge applicator to blend, blend, and blend until everything is even. I’m impressed with the staying power, the only challenge is to blend it quite well.

Overall, I want, want beautiful colors on my lids everytime I go out, and I don’t think that the Quad would work on me, since comes off as very sheer on me. Instead, I would opt for the Fluid Powder Eyeshadow.

I can’t wait until the Fluid Powder eyeshadow is available in Canada. I bet it would make a great primer.

Hi Roxy! It would not be able to function as a primer since it dries up easily into a powder finish. It won’t make other minerals stick. For primer…check out Aromaleigh’s or Jlynne’s :) Theyre pretty great!
