Mineral Makeup Review : Battle of the Sealants

Ever had trouble making mineral eye shadows last long on your lids? I do. My lids are very oily compared with the rest of my face. Usually in 2-3 hours any kind of eye shadow creases on me. Thanks to a very good primer I’ve been using I have solved my problem (but that’s another story and not mineral makeup related). I envy those ladies who can dry-line with mineral pigments without having smudges or fading later on.

I am going to compare 3 sealants used to transform mineral pigments as liners. They are: Eye shadow Sealant (sold by most mineral makeup companies), Milan Gelle Drops and Aromaleigh Indelible Sealant.

For all these 3 all you need is 1 drop (or even less than a drop) of the liquid to make a pasty consistency with the mineral powder. Apply on the lash line with your chosen liner brush and voila! Wet- lining with mineral powder. Make sure that the liners are completely dry before opening your eyes or it will smudge on to your upper lid. The problem now arises with the longevity of your newly applied liner. Which one lasts the longest?

In my experience the hands-down winner was Milan Gelle Drops. Why, you ask? It’s because the powder is transformed into a gel form which applied very smoothly. It stays put until I removed it at night. The pigment color did not fade at all and did not flake off. The generic sealant faded after a few hours in comparison and smudged onto my upper lid. The Aromaleigh sealant applied well. It also did not fade but it flaked off after a few hours. It would have been a good one, too if not for the flaking since the pigment color remained vibrant.

Any of these 3 sealants I can use if I only need 2-3 hours worth of eye shadow time. But for those times when you’re out the whole day or night, a long-lasting sealant is much better and the Gelle Drops does that for me.

Now this review applies only to my oily lids. Some ladies have had good experiences with just plain water or eye drops used to wet-line and it lasted the whole day! Aren’t they lucky?

Mineral Makeup Girl’s note : We’re absolutely on the same boat, Nikki. Tres oily lids are so hard to maintain! Bare Escentuals is my holy grail sealant. I haven’t tried Gelle Drops, perhaps I should! Great, great review!
