Mineral Makeup Question : What Made You Switch?

I have been talking nonstop to my friends, classmates, and just everyone that mineral makeup is first to touch my skin every single day, and I’d want it that way. I was just wondering, and I would like to ask my readers – what made you switch to mineral makeup? Was it a funny story? A lucky strike? A decision influenced by a friend?

Let me share my experience. I was a closet makeup junkie from gradeschool and highschool, and started being a self-professed makeup addict dring college. I would devour magazine contents, specially in the beauty section, just to tempt myself to save up and buy more beauty products, and makeup. I loved applying makeup because it made me feel better. More confident. Feel more beautiful. But my skin was a mess, to start with. I had, and still have acne. Open pores. Ultra oily skin. The combination of my bad skin, and traditional makeup was a huge problem, as I sought to cover my imperfections by makeup, but I was making my skin worse.

One day, I was browsing through my local forum about Bare Escentuals. The one who brought it here in Manila ( now turned very good friend ) had really good service that she even drove to my home to deliver my goodies. I tried their eye glimmers because I won it from her raffle, and I was able to buy from her mineral foundation. From the day I applied mineral foundation on my face, I knew I would never look back. The best moment, was when someone told me on how my skin was improving, and I was wearing around 3 layers of Bare Escentuals then. After that, I sought and researched more mineral makeup brands, tried different mineral foundations, as my skin improved drastically, and I told myself that this is it – the biggest solution to my problems. I now don’t have super bad skin – though I still have acne – but very much controlled, but I know that my makeup does not hinder its progress in healing. Fantastic, isn’t it?

Well, how about you? I’d love to hear about your story!

My switch came after watching the Bare Escentials info-commercial. I was curious as to how a powder could make your skin look that flawless and not clog pores. Also, after getting yet another pimple from my liquid foundation I was just fed up. so, I decided to research what mineral foundation provided the best coverage but did not clog pores or wear off oily skin. Your mineral makeup blog was the first blog I encountered and it provided me with valuable information in the form of your great reviews of various mineral makeup brands and formulas. After some trial and error I decided on Lauress’ Ethereal formula mineral foundation. I have not gotten one pimple from this makeup and I have been using it for about 2 months. I will never go back to traditional liquid makeup. I like the fact that the makeup I use now only has about 5 ingredients and none of them are pore clogging.

Interesting. I haven’t made the switch yet…I want to, I’m just too messy. I’d probably spill it everywhere

i had this thinking that anything i wear would be useless if my face doesn’t look good. so, growing up, i’d save my allowance to spend on on make-up and anything for the face. i’d educate myself about new products from magazines and tv programs and as my knowledge and appreciation matured, i noticed that traditional make-up doesn’t look too natural on me. it’s something that i wouldn’t wear to school because i find it embarassing that my classmates would notice that i am wearing make up even though i aimed for the natural look. and another thing is that halfway through the day, my face would feel uncomfortable. pimples and blackheads started coming out of my face even though i’ve had good skin prior. so i stopped for a very long time. then i was watching home tv shopping and learned about california beauty’s sudden glow mineral make-up and i said to myself that this was the kind of make-up for me. i wasn’t able to afford it at that time. until i became a multiply user and learned about local mineral make-up sellers. it just looked too natural and my skin can breathe! i can leave it on my skin as i sleep and wouldn’t feel gunky in the morning! i just love it to pieces that i’m not using anything else than mineral make-up for all my face coloring needs.

I am something of a latecomer to makeup as a whole. As a child I was a dancer and heavy unnatural stage makeup was the norm for performances and it felt awful and was hot and heavy to wear. As a teenager I experimented with makeup in the way too much way too shiny aqua eye shadow kind of way but I had terrible acne which only worsened with regular makeup wear.

By my 20′s I had managed to improved to more natural application but being a poor student meant it cost too much and took too much time so it was down to a special occasion thing. Then in graduate school makeup became pointless as I was a field archaeologist were sunscreen was the only face treatment because within minutes I was covered in dirt.

After grad school I ended up going into market research (business) and makeup then became a requirement 5 days a week but again it brought out weird irritations and odd acne breakouts and took time.

So during a year and a half into a two year layoff I started to see more advertising for mineral makeup , particularly bare essentuals, but it cost a fortune even the cut rate beginner set that was at COstco at the time. I wanted to try it because I figured I might get a job faster if I could find a makeup that I could wear everyday and look more natural in it interviewing.
Physicians formula had just brought out their mineral makeup line. It looked good on me, it calmed down my skin but the colors were bland earth tones that looked a lot like just dirt but it was cheap and easy to get.

I also tried Neurogena as well and it was soothing as well but it was more expensive and it wasn’t a perfect match for my face color.

So I hit the internet and started looking for mineral makeup that had glamorous colors, was as cheap as drugstore prices and had the least fillers and chemical additives. I found Meow Cosmetics and I LOVE it!! Their samples are cheap and large so I was able to collect a whole range of eye shadows and blushes cheaply. It is so comfortable that I wear it every day even weekends. And it makes my skin look and feel better even without makeup!I will NEVER go back to traditional makeup. Add to that the cache of naming makeup with cat breed named foundations and cat themed names for most of their makeup as I am a huge cat lover!

Unfortunately, Meow doesn’t make lip colors or mascara so I had to hit the internet again and I have recently discovered Aromaleigh for lip glosses and lipsticks and Honeybee Gardens mascara so I now have a whole mineral makeup wardrobe all at great prices and with the fewest chemical additives.

And mineral makeup is addictive and fun to experiment with!! After a year and a half I am TOTALLY hooked!
