Mineral Makeup Loves the Undereyes!

Having seriously dark undereyes had been a problem since the word stress and insomnia introduced themselves to me. Thank heavens for mineral makeup! :D With Bare Escentuals’ Well Rested and Ocean Mist’s saffron yellow concealer, I am able to look my best everyday. As if I had a good night’s sleep. Here’s a before-and-after shot of me with and without concealer:

Looking for your HG (holy grail) concealer is quite tedious, just as finding the perfect tools in giving you bright undereyes. I must admit it took me over a year (yes, I’m turning one year with mineral makeup!) to almost perfect applying concealer. And to be honest, I still am using a cream concealer from a non-mineral makeup brand to help in the staying power of my loose powder concealers. I rarely have any problems anymore, except when I over-apply too much product. I ended up looking like a panda, only that it’s a weird, yellow circle around my eyes. Lol.

In covering those undereyes, you’ll also need the right concealer brush. The Mineral Makeup Girl suggests one that does not “tug” at the undereyes. The skin there is quite thin and sensitive, the ring finger is actually recommended when applying products at the area since it exerts very little pressure.

A few months ago, I got myself some new brushes from Everyday Minerals. EDM’s brushes were actually my very first so I thought of giving it another shot. One of the brushes I purchased is their oval concealer brush, described as:

A great firm tip head made from soft synthetic hair for perfect and precise application for blemishes and undereye areas.

The name speaks for itself, the tip head is oval and firm indeed. At first I was worried about using it to apply undereye concealer because it might “tug” away. The synthetic brush (I’m guessing it’s made of taklon) swept easily and evened the amount of product just the way I wanted it to. And the head’s unique shape goes with the natural contour of the undereye area. This brush can be used for applying either cream or loose powder concealer. And for $6, this one brush is so worth having! ;)

So wait, how did you do your concealer? Did you put your cream non-mineral concealer first, and then put OceanMist Saffron right after? Where does BM Well Rested fit into the procedure (do you apply BOTH of them in the same application, or one in place of the other depending on your mood)? Do you put your regular foundation right on top to seal it, with a finishing powder on top of those?

    Thanks in advance =)

Hi Hannah! Nice question you have there. :)

I usually put a primer first, then foundation. Just a light layer will do to even out everything. Then i apply dots of my non-mineral cream concealer under my eyes and blend them in. After that, I use a concealer brush (a fluffy eyeshadow brush may do) to pat Bare Escentuals’ Well Rested over, for a brighter effect.

I don’t use Ocean Mist’s saffron as much as I did. I find it too yellow and too bright when applied over my cream concealer. Once I looked like a raccoon, with this weird yellow circles around my eyes! LOL. :D Others prefer saffron over Well Rested. IMO, it’s just as matter of whatever works for you.

Going back, after the concealing, it’s another sweep of foundation to seal it all in. Then I finish with dusting some finishing powder on top of everything.

    Hope that helps. ;)
