Mineral Makeup Application Technique : Sheer Coverage

bare escentuals As a mineral makeup addict gets to try heaps of mineral makeup, she learns to classify, specifically the foundation : sheer, medium , and heavy coverage. In this entry, I’d like to share application techniques for mineral makeup foundations that offer sheer coverage to the skin.

Mineral makeup foundations that offer sheer, light coverage are as versatile as full coverage ones. Notable brands that offer this kind of coverage are Bare Escentuals, Alima, Lumiere, Lauren Hutton, and more. They are so great to use because on a hot, summer day when you just can’t bear the feel of makeup on your skin, they feel as light as air, and they do not make you feel too made up. If anyone thinks that foundations that offer sheer coverage are only for flawless skinned girls, well, that’s where I beg to differ. These sheer beauties offer buildable coverage that can cover enough that you want to hide!

Applying It Sheer

First, a kabuki brush is needed for ample coverage, sheer or full , for this kind of foundation. Get a small amount from the container, and buff into face until everything is even. After that, apply mineral veil to further even out the look, refine the face, and finish it off. The result look is a simple, fresh, light look that has got not much coverage. Make sure to conceal if there are small imperfections.

Applying it for Full Coverage
Again, a kabuki brush is needed for this. We can apply foundation dry, or wet. For the wet method, this is something that I have learned from experience :

Swirl your trusty kabuki in the bowl for some product, and spray moisture mist to the brush. The brush gets wet, and start buffing into skin. You would slowly feel coverage building up – somehow like a liquid foundation, but lighter.

Repeat, and build up layers, until you see fit.

Apply concealer on problem parts, preferably wet. Then apply one final layer of foundation to even out everything.

Set with mineral veil and moisture mist.

That was easy! On a personal note, Bare Escentuals was my very first mineral makeup brand, and it offered sheer coverage The first time I used it, I could not believe on how even my skin looked despite my imperfections ( blemishes ). My skin is typically problematic with blemishes, scars, and discolorations, and even with foundations with sheer coverage, it managed to even my skin out, softened my look a little, and with a little help with multi-tasking bisque ( B.E.’s concealer ), I got compliments from people that my skin condition had drastically improved and they loved it.

So bottomline? Sheer coverage foundations make your skin look just like your skin, only enhanced, and way way more beautiful!

Hi. I have a question, I couldn’t find your e-mail address, so I’m going to post it here instead. When I apply mineral makeup with a brush, it accenturates the fine hairs in my face. It seems that powder foundations (not only mineral makeup foundations, but others too) makes those hair stand out more. I’ve tried smoothing my face with the brush, but they are still more visible. Is there anything I can do about this? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

The fine hairs standing out can be attributed to a few reasons. These include:
    1) You are applying/brushing against the growth of hair. When applying foundation, you should apply along the direction of the growth of hair.
    2) You may be wearing foundation that is too light for your skin tone that your hair shows.
    3) Not that this is the case, but you could either be focusing too much on your hair, or that your hair is actually super dark and needs to be threaded/waxed! The latter isn’t usually the case, but you could just be paranoid.

    I hope that helped! =)

I purchased the complete set of Aqua but I don’t know in what order to apply it and it came with no instructions. Could someone please send me some instructions? I want to use this make-up but need to be educated about it, otherwise I’ll have to send it back.

    Thank you
