I thought Artdeco only released satin-textured mineral eyeshadows as they were the only ones I’ve seen at the local mall. Apparently, I was wrong! I was able to try Artdeco’s Mineral Eyeshadow in Black Diamond, and boy oh boy, it is nothing matte! Haha!

To easily put it, Black Diamond is well, black with glitters. The perfect color for a basic smoky eye, with an added “kick’ with the glitters. Smoky eye with matte black could look too intense and gothic, but black with glitters can give the traditional black smoky eye some dose of fun, and sparkle, to make it more “alive” and less boring!

Artdeco has a pressed eyeshadow shade exactly like this, and all I can say is that, I so prefer the mineral eyeshadow counterpart, because the pot of mineral eyeshadow in Black Diamond is slightly more expensive, but the product is much, much more! It also glides easier and is more pigmented than the pressed eyeshadow counterpart, which falls off when applied on the lid.

I love this shade! Don’t you?

I’m SO glad they have Artdeco here in my country. Their stuff are REALLY good!

Ava – pure sterling silver, sparkly and rich for true movie star sheen
Bette – a deep, velvety blue with hints of silver to add mystery

This sounds very promising as moisturizers are so much needed during this cold weather that we are experiencing right now, and it wouldn’t hurt that there is moisturizing mineral makeup there, as well!

As one gets into the world of mineral makeup, it’s not only “powder” or “foundation” that they are concerned about. A new product is introduced as an essential part of their vanity kit, which is called mineral finishing powder, than not only evens out the foundation application, it smoothens the overall look, as well as give better texture, be it satin-matte, or glow. Aside from that, there are also mineral finishing powders with ample oil controlling properties that can help keeping the face shine-free all day.

For me, I have found solace with mineral finishing powders mainly for oil control, and making pores look smaller. Yes, finishing powders can also do that with the ingredient silica, that does not only control oil, but also reflects light that makes skin seem more flawless. Kaolin clay, on the other hand, increases oil absorption, that is a great oil control finishing powder. Of course, those who have dry skin should avoid these ingredients altogether, and look for those with skin soothing ingredients like jojoba oil, or allantoin.

Well, to answer my own question, I’d have to say that my all time favorite mineral finishing powder would have to be Larenim’s Invisi-pore. I’ve been experimenting with mineral makeup for almost two years already and I can say that I always, always make it a point to come back and stock up on this brand even if I already have so much mineral finishing powders from other brands because of the magic it does to me. I apply it right after I smoothen some primer on my skin, for the invisi-pore effect, and yes, it helps reduce the appearance of my enlarged pores ( brought about my oily skin ). After I do all my makeup, I finish with a very sheer layer of Invisi-pore also, to make sure that my skin looks very flawless ( with the silica content, it makes skin look very poreless and flawless ), as well as aid in oil control. I’m not saying that it is the best in the oil controlling department, but it reflects light so effectively that it makes my flaws ( and scars ) get all blurred! As my skin oils up, it turns out dewy , and not greasy. I totally get away with this finishing powder.

So , what’s your favorite mineral finishing powder?

Ive mentioned earlier that Pure Anada is simply heaven-sent because this mineral foundation not only is very much full in coverage, it also just seems to make pores look nonexistent! It’s so flawless that it was a real heartbreak for me when I couldn’t get my exact match with it.

A few days ago, I paid a visit to my friend and co-mineral makeup addict Nikki to try a pot of foundation that seemed too light for her, whose shade was Medium Golden. Upon hearing that name, it seemed like the perfect shade for me since well, my shade was Light to Medium, but I’ve taken a liking for darker shades since I wanted to retain my nonexistent tan, and my shoulders are darker than my face anyway ( that makes me get away with darker or lighter shades ). So, I went ahead and bought her pot of Medium Golden to try out.

Medium Golden

With the previous shades that I’ve tried, they were too brown or too light on me that I had to tweak shades to be able to achieve my desired shade. I’m not a big fan of tweaking colors since I’m always on the go, so it’s really comforting just to have one shade, in one pot to use for everyday. As I tried Medium Golden by Pure Anada, the tone of yellow was just right on me, it wasn’t brown on me, it was just a medium-yellow tone on me that was just right. As for the shade, this is definitely for those who use medium shades like Monave’s Saturnina or Bare Escentual’s Medium Beige ( with golden undertones ). With my paler valor this season, I’ve switched back into being a user of light-medium shades, so this was a bit dark on me. But that does not mean that I won’t be able to use it because summer’s not so far away! In fact, I still wear it nowadays whenever I feel like I want to look tanned. Totally works because of my tricky arms ( which are tanned all year )

To sum up, I’m so so glad that Pure Anada’s coming up with yellow tones in their foundation because the first few formulations were more of brown. I’d love to see them come up with more yellow tones, and more olive tones as well! The brand could use a wide variety of shades because the quality of their foundation is really promising.

and yes, this is a major rave *wink*

P.S. for shade customization, you may email Pure Anada’s owner, for consultation. Please go to their website for details.

I’ve been intrigued about Prescriptives, a high end luxury brand coming up with its own version of mineral makeup. I wondered if it would be as good as the ones that I am using right now, which are sold online, and handmade by very talented mineral makeup formulators, which I so so so love. So, when I got my Prescriptives All Skins Mineral Makeup, I immediately tried it on me as I would want to get an initial feel of this mineral makeup!

Of course, the shiny, shiny pot won me at first look, because I just love the packaging. I got my shade in Level 2, Warm-Light, which is a Light to Medium neutral shade. I was able to get away with this shade because of my being pale nowadays, so I’m glad that I was able to roadtest it on my skin to try.

At first look on the pot, the mineral foundation looked very matte, but the moment I swiped it at the back of my hand to swatch and get an initial feel, it had sheen. It was bismuth oxychloride. Well, it is still up to the user if he/she can tolerate bismuth oxychloride, and since the weather’s cold here, I’m all for it! (I’m just too happy that I don’t get reactions with this certain ingredient ).

I used the Prescriptives Round Buff Brush, which can actually pass up for a long handled kabuki, and with its animal hair, it provided good buffing quality. The feel on the skin was fairly okay, it wasn’t the softest animal haired brush on earth, but it wasn’t coarse at all, and it didnt prick the skin, so it was really just alright for me. The softness of the brush was good enough for buffing.

Going back, as I buffed some mineral foundation on my skin, I noticed that the coverage was light. I don’t mean light, that can actually pass as a finishing powder, but light like Bare Escentuals. Actually, I can find alot of similarities with Prescriptives’ All Skins Mineral Makeup and Bare Escentual’s Mineral Foundation. Their coverage are almost the same, and the sheen, as well. I was able to build up my coverage to medium after three layers and one spray of moisture mist, and my skin looked very bare, and natural. This is the type of mineral foundation that you’d love to wear when you’re not in the mood to wear any makeup at all, or you don’t want to show up looking like you have any, and I mean any makeup at all. The finish is very flawless, I can’t complain at all!

To sum up, my initial review of the Prescriptives’ All Skins Mineral Makeup SPF15 is fairly good. The coverage is buildable, but might require some effort, but people who have both good skin and bad skin will be able to enjoy this mineral foundation because it can give coverage in the sense that it can make your skin look very natural and bare, even with this mineral foundation on your face. The staying power is also good, as it stayed on my face for a good 4-5 hours before it demanded a retouch.

I shall be roadtesting this more in the next coming days, and I’d be back for a full blast review!

Well, it’s time for another mineral makeup review, and this time, it’s a review of Susan Posnick Colorflo Mineral Foundation.

Susan Posnick’s one of the first brands of mineral makeup to come out in the market, so I was very excited to try this out and give my verdict in it. Looking at the picture, I love the portability as the Colorflo Mineral Foundation comes in a self-dispensing brush that you can just bring with you anywhere, without the risk of the mess and spillage in your handbag. This type of packaging is what my bestfriends have been asking and bugging me about, and I’m sure that the moment they see this, they’d grab it from me and never give it back! haha!

Anyway, I tried it during lunchtime today, and I pumped some product out to apply on my bare skin. The coverage is very very light, almost like a finishing powder that I had trouble building it up on my skin since my skin needed heavy coverage. After about 5-6 layers, all I was able to achieve was a light to medium coverage, that I still needed to whip up a separate cream concealer to conceal my problem areas. As for the finish, I could see a creamy, sheeny finish, that evened out the skin tone ( even if I couldnt see the effect since my skin was a bit challenged ) that can actually work as my…finishing powder! Truly!

To sum up, I could not really review the Susan Posnick Colorflo Mineral Foundation as a foundation for me, because it didn’t give my needed coverage. This would work great for people who have normal, or good skin, that don’t need much coverage, that they’d be able to appreciate a sheer wash of evened out skin or a more polished complexion because of its sheer coverage. It would really work better as a finishing powder for those who need heavier coverage, as the finish seems promising. With the M7 shade that I’ve used, I hardly saw any color because of the sheer coverage.

Just too bad that I couldn’t bring it with me when I travel as a heavy coverage foundation! That sure would take some burden off me! Haha!

I’d like to hear from those who had experiences with Susan Posnick’s Colorflo Mineral Foundation. Maybe it worked great for you, and I’d love a different perspective!
