Mineral Makeup Review : Purely Cosmetics’ Silk Powder

Wednesday 13 August 2008 @ 12:02 am

For oily skinned people, it is just a struggle to keep the face shine free. Mineral makeup is heaven-sent as it does not clog the pores ( when skin is oily, the bigger the probability of pores getting clogged ), but it’s still a struggle to find the best product to control those oilies.

Three ingredients that are precious to the discriminating mineral makeup lover who suffers from oilies : kaolin clay, silica, and silk powder. I’ve tried the first two, and I just kept on ignoring my friend who kept on professing about silk powder because kaolin clay and silica can only bring me up to some extent for oil control, but not totally.

I was able to try Purely Cosmetics’ Silk Powder one Saturday afternoon when my skin was peeling so bad. I was loading my face with lots of moisture mist, but I still made sure that I had some oil control because of my face having greasy tendencies. Purely Cosmetics’ Silk Powder felt very very light and it felt like I was not wearing any finishing powder at all ( this is lighter than most finishing powders ) but the finish was faintly flawless -faintly in the sense that it gave out a sheer flawless finish to my overall look.

Saturday 19 July 2008 @ 12:03 am

One great news that I’ve heard from my friend is that Aromaleigh, one of the really good mineral makeup brands out there, is going to start shipping internationally pretty soon. I’m so excited because I sure know what I’m going to get, and it’s their Ultra Resolution Finishing Powder.

Mineral Makeup Mini Loot : Dreamworld Minerals

Thursday 1 May 2008 @ 4:12 pm

Sigh. Why am I so gaga about mineral makeup?

I’ve been waiting for this certain loot for a long time already. I don’t know whats up with the local Postal Office! Darn.

Finally, I get my hands on Dreamworld Minerals. Everyone is going gaga over the fantastic full coverage formula, and I said to myself, I’ve to try this , as a fan of full coverage mineral foundation. Makeup artists tell me only traditional liquid foundation can really give full coverage, and I just beg to disagree. I love mineral foundations that offer full coverage because they truly truly work and even give off a more flawless finish that its liquid counterparts - we just add some mist!

Mineral Makeup Look : An EOTD While Organizing Mineral Eyeshadows

Tuesday 15 April 2008 @ 10:29 pm

Crissy, one of our beautiful contributors here, has decided to “bare it all”, and show her EOTD to us!

Here’s her adventure with silver shades! Enjoy reading! - MMU Girl
-

Whenever I buy mineral eyeshadows, I usually get neutral colors. I’m not too confident with eyeshadow application and neutral colors are a lot more foolproof than its bright colored counterparts. My neutral mineral eyeshadows definitely outnumber any other shade of eyeshadow that I have in my makeup stash.

Weeks ago, I read an entry from this blog about storing mineral makeup sample baggies in trading card or business card holders. I bought a business card holder back then, but never got around to actually organizing my samples. So I started taking out my samples, and my sister suggested storing them by color.

Mineral Makeup FOTD : Sarabeth’s Graduation

Friday 28 March 2008 @ 7:19 pm

Looks like it’s graduation season again ( end of March ), and as The Blushing Vixen featured her gorgeous sister’s FOTD, let me just share my baby sister Sarabeth’s FOTD, whose makeup I did, just a few hours ago.

This is what the makeup set that I have prepared for Sarabeth a night before , since she planned on waking up 5 am in the morning, and her makeup was to be done at 6 o’clock. No time for me to think then!

I wanted a fresh, simple look for the graduating sixth grader so I chose the following minerals and tools to get the job done :

Mineral Makeup Review : Dreamworld Minerals

Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 1:07 pm

Being the mineral makeup addict that I am, I’ve tried quite a number of mineral makeup brands. The latest that I have tried is Dreamworld Minerals. This company’s theme is mythological and ethereal making their product names interesting. What do I have to say about this company?

First of all, their customer service is amazing! Ellie is probably the most helpful mmu owner out there who tries to help each and every Dreamworld customer get their perfect match. You really can not ask for anything more. Second, their website is very pretty (that’s why it won the “Most Attractive Forum” over at Delphi). Third, I found my Holy Grail finishing powder here.

Mineral Makeup Look : Graduation Day FOTD

Wednesday 26 March 2008 @ 9:18 pm

For the very first time, I am sharing an FOTD that doesn’t feature yours truly, but my little sister who just graduated from her culinary arts course. The Mineral Makeup Girl once did her little sister’s makeup too! Isn’t that just sweet, big sisters primping and prettifying the li’l ones! :D

When my sister told me maybe I should do her makeup on graduation day, I was totally clueless. Sure, I did attempt to put makeup on her once, like a few years ago, and it didn’t turn out so well. Much that she almost didn’t want me to touch her face ever again! Lol. I guess she changed her mind seeing how often I wear mineral makeup these days.

I have my own ideas. But in playing makeup artist , I made it a point to ask her what look she was going for and what colors she had in mind. Since the event was set a little after lunch, she didn’t want it to be too dark, or smokey or over-the-top. She was aiming for something in neutrals/coppers that would complement her floral kimono dress and rich medium skin tone. I let her pick the colors from my makeup box, mostly in neutrals, golds and coppers. Two nights before, we sort of “practiced” the look so as not to take too much time when I am to actually do her makeup.

Presenting my sister:

And this was taken after, not before the ceremony since we were running late! Here’s her EOTD:

Mineral Makeup On The Beach!

Tuesday 11 March 2008 @ 7:30 pm

Last weekend was pure bliss to me as I traveled to a place far, far away from the city, and just relaxed, and had an annual reunion with the beach. Of course, everyone knows I just can’t live without applying makeup, specially when my friends and I love taking photos to chronicle our vacations, one just has to look good no matter what! Thing is, makeup should be really unnoticeable, and natural to pull off a relaxed, beautiful vacation photo!

As I prepared for my “travel makeup kit”, I wanted to save as much space as possible because I had alot of skin care, makeup brushes ( which I totally forgot, good thing my bestbud had extras ), and more clothes and a camera gear. ( My back almost broke because I also carried a sturdy and heavy tripod with me! hahaha! ). So there, I used a multi-deck jar and just put about 1/4 teaspoons of each variant of minerals that I would need.

I was able to pack the following : Continue Reading »

Mineral Makeup Review : Henri Calayag’s Mineral Wonders

Tuesday 19 February 2008 @ 11:41 pm

Just recently, a new mineral makeup line was born - and it is from a joint collaboration of master stylist Henri Calayag, and entrepreneur extraordinare Ruby Gan, and the line’s called Mineral Wonders.

I was given the privilege of trying Mineral Wonders to give my honest opinions about it, and here’s what I am about to do!

The Mineral Wonders line, as of today, consists of four mineral powders - Light Beige Foundation, Tulle Mineral Veil, Bunny Hop Cheek Pincher, and Mud Contour/Bronzer, as well as the Blood lip gloss, and a synthetic kabuki brush. They’re being sold in Myth (Greenbelt 5 ) and in Henri’s salon - Henri Calayag Salon, found on the Ground Floor of Greenbelt’s The Residences. ( Philippines. )

I was very giddy to try this first mineral makeup that is manufactured and sold commercially in the Philippines, because they all looked promising. And now, for the lowdown :
