I spent the weekend holding a workshop on how to apply makeup to ladies who want to achieve a more polished and made up ( natural look ) for the office. I had so much fun, and of course, I had much more fun introducing to them the concept of mineral makeup. I think I need to plan a mineral makeup workshop soon. I’m getting excited! I just love, love, love teaching. Nothing gratifies me more than imparting knowledge and spreading the mineral makeup love!
Going back to topic, I was praising my dual fibre brush during the entire time being of the workshop because it does not only work wonders for liquid foundation, it’s also a miracle worker for mineral makeup. The Dual Fibre brush, is well, dual fibre because it is made up of animal hair ( in this case, pony ) and synthetic hair. It is miraculous in the sense that it picks up just about the right amount of product that you don’t need to apply too much pressure - just lightly apply on the area, and it’d glide in like an airbrushed finish product. Amazing.

Mineral Makeup Tools : Rediscovering the Dual Fibre Brush
This next topic about using mineral makeup for certain skin problem is very very sensitive to me, because no one taught me how to combat this problem and I dealt with this on my own. But now that I’ve found out how to combat it, I’d like to share with this to the world because people who have uneven skin are not hopeless. Take for example, me *smiles*
Uneven skin is different from uneven skin tone. Uneven skin can take in form of crater, or depressed scars, or even pores that are too big that look shrunk scars. What’s depressing about them is that no matter how much makeup you put on your skin , they will still appear as such as it is irreversible ( except for aggressive dermabrasion , continuous skin peeling, or Fraxel/Pixel treatments ). We can only do so much as we can make it look less visible or noticeable.

Mineral Makeup Guide : Bad Skin, Uneven Skin
Here’s our first installment for our Mineral Makeup Guide, and for the first problem, it’s for those who have oily skin. Oily skin is not really an indication of bad skin, but it can cause breakouts, and it doesn’t look pleasant on pictures. Oily skin is somewhat beneficial in the long run because it has less tendency to look wrinkled unlike dry skin.
Here’s a quick guide on how to deal with oily skin using mineral makeup.
Key Ingredients
Ingredients that oily skinned ones should be on the lookout for are the following : kaolin clay, silica, silk powder, bentonite clay, Cornstarch ( Zea Mays ), Oat Powder ( Avena Sativa ). They all help absorb excess oil on the skin. Mineral makeup that have this can give good oil control, it depends on the skin’s affinity to that certain ingredient, it’s your choice on what works great for you.

Mineral Makeup Guide : Bad Skin, Oily Skin
For my first installment of guides in mineral makeup application, this one’s called Mineral Makeup Guide : Good Skin. What is good skin? Well, some of us are blessed with good, low-maintenance skin that are clear and flawless to start with, but some of us are challenged with some problems of oiliess, blemishes, scars, some pigmentation, and even aging. Mineral makeup makes every skin look good, if I may say. No buts, only one - we have different application tips for different skin conditions! For those who have good skin to start with, here’s a guide on mineral makeup for you! This can also be helpful for teenagers that want some basic help on their first dose on mineral makeup, just to keep things simple!
Starting tomorrow, I thought I’d continue writing entries about mineral makeup tips with the growing number of newbies! With that, I’ve thought of writing a series of entries - maybe just one, for good skin, and maybe two for bad skin. I don’t know if it’s politically correct to call us who have problem skin “bad skin” ( please, by all means, let me know ) , but I will be enumerating several skin conditions, and how to use mineral makeup to alleviate and combat that certain problem.
Now that HDTV’s all the rage, there are cosmetic brands slowly coming up with their own HDTV versions of their makeup line. I’d like to see some mineral makeup brands come up with this for HDTV or high-resolution photography ( which is photography, since photography is high resolution itself ), but thing is, I have already encountered really good mineral makeup brands, that are sold in the internet, that can pass off as HDTV material! With my experience yesterday with doing makeup for TV, I have learned alot, and further made me more fascinated with perfecting makeup for TV.
With the search for good mineral makeup that can pass off as HDTV or super photogenic, consider the following points :
1. It must be matte.
TV makeup must be matte. No shine. No shimmer. Shimmer makes the face look more fat, and sometimes, if unfortunate, shimmer can make skin look “oily.” Look for mineral makeup brands that are matte. Of course, don’t use those that look chalky. As the term goes, “matte, but not flat.”

On The Search For Good, HDTV Mineral Makeup!
This has actually been long delayed, but I’m really quite excited to share with you all several mineral makeup addicts in cyberspace. To think that most budding mineral makeup companies are internet-based, mineral makeup forums and blogs serve as important must-reads for reviews, tips, and tricks. Vox is quite a popular place for mineral makeup addicts as there is a friendly neighborhood of mineral makeup addicts there that feature their recent purchases, shade comparisons, and even advice on how to make mineral makeup work great. Well, I approached some girls there for an interview, as I was very fascinated that there quite a number who love mineral makeup as much as I do, and are even fierce collectors of shades!
First up, is Dayna. Dayna’s quite popular in the neighborhood, as I remember Aileen commending Dayna for having a knack for D-I-Y’s. Aside from being a mineral makeup addict, Dayna also makes her own mineral makeup, and is set to be in business anytime soon!
Let’s get to know her, shall we?
Let me just share a random thought that I’ve had for the day. Yes, the day never passes by without me thinking about mineral makeup *wink*. For a mineral makeup addict, or even a user, one must have at least three foundation shades.
One being a slightly lighter shade, one your current shade, and one darker shade.
The lighter shade could be a last-minute concealer that you can use just in case your concealer runs out, and a shade that you can use during the cold months when the complexion pales by a bit. I have observed that complexions tend to lighten up during the months of November and December when the weather is cold. To counter the “lightened skin” effect, great addon minerals are bronzers ( not the muddy looking ones , not too orange ) that can give some warmth to the skin.

Mineral Makeup Brushes 101 : Choosing The Right Brushes!

I’ve chanced upon this article about sunscreens, and it sort of alarmed me. With the plethora of products for sun protection, apparently, not all are effective enough as they claim to be.
According to environmental watchdog Environmental Working Group, they have checked 783 sunscreen products with SPF 15 and above, and claim that 84% of them don’t really do their job. Wait. 783 x 84 % = *gasp*. Continue Reading »
