Mineral Makeup Look : An EOTD While Organizing Mineral Eyeshadows

Tuesday 15 April 2008 @ 10:29 pm

Crissy, one of our beautiful contributors here, has decided to “bare it all”, and show her EOTD to us!

Here’s her adventure with silver shades! Enjoy reading! - MMU Girl
-

Whenever I buy mineral eyeshadows, I usually get neutral colors. I’m not too confident with eyeshadow application and neutral colors are a lot more foolproof than its bright colored counterparts. My neutral mineral eyeshadows definitely outnumber any other shade of eyeshadow that I have in my makeup stash.

Weeks ago, I read an entry from this blog about storing mineral makeup sample baggies in trading card or business card holders. I bought a business card holder back then, but never got around to actually organizing my samples. So I started taking out my samples, and my sister suggested storing them by color.

Mineral Makeup Look : Graduation Day FOTD

Wednesday 26 March 2008 @ 9:18 pm

For the very first time, I am sharing an FOTD that doesn’t feature yours truly, but my little sister who just graduated from her culinary arts course. The Mineral Makeup Girl once did her little sister’s makeup too! Isn’t that just sweet, big sisters primping and prettifying the li’l ones! :D

When my sister told me maybe I should do her makeup on graduation day, I was totally clueless. Sure, I did attempt to put makeup on her once, like a few years ago, and it didn’t turn out so well. Much that she almost didn’t want me to touch her face ever again! Lol. I guess she changed her mind seeing how often I wear mineral makeup these days.

I have my own ideas. But in playing makeup artist , I made it a point to ask her what look she was going for and what colors she had in mind. Since the event was set a little after lunch, she didn’t want it to be too dark, or smokey or over-the-top. She was aiming for something in neutrals/coppers that would complement her floral kimono dress and rich medium skin tone. I let her pick the colors from my makeup box, mostly in neutrals, golds and coppers. Two nights before, we sort of “practiced” the look so as not to take too much time when I am to actually do her makeup.

Presenting my sister:

And this was taken after, not before the ceremony since we were running late! Here’s her EOTD:

Mineral Makeup On The Beach!

Tuesday 11 March 2008 @ 7:30 pm

Last weekend was pure bliss to me as I traveled to a place far, far away from the city, and just relaxed, and had an annual reunion with the beach. Of course, everyone knows I just can’t live without applying makeup, specially when my friends and I love taking photos to chronicle our vacations, one just has to look good no matter what! Thing is, makeup should be really unnoticeable, and natural to pull off a relaxed, beautiful vacation photo!

As I prepared for my “travel makeup kit”, I wanted to save as much space as possible because I had alot of skin care, makeup brushes ( which I totally forgot, good thing my bestbud had extras ), and more clothes and a camera gear. ( My back almost broke because I also carried a sturdy and heavy tripod with me! hahaha! ). So there, I used a multi-deck jar and just put about 1/4 teaspoons of each variant of minerals that I would need.

I was able to pack the following : Continue Reading »

Grand Mineral Makeup Weekend in Manila!

Wednesday 28 November 2007 @ 2:00 am

The Grand Mineral Makeup Day in Manila held during the Bazaarnival in Greenmeadows was a huge success. Girls and boys who were interested in mineral makeup flocked to the airconditioned function room of the bazaar to inquire, have their free makeovers, get their lootbags, and do some mineral makeup shopping. I have never imagined so much people who are interested with mineral makeup!

Let me just say that this was the ultimate mineral makeup wonderland in the country for two days? Never have I seen so much mineral makeup. It was like the absolute heaven for mineral makeup addicts to see a great variety of mineral makeup, that they can see up close in one location! I was lost in the vast sea of color, loose powders, and makeup brushes. Ahh, the weekend that commenced made me depressed as I am now in the real world! It was a dream world!

A Mineral Makeup FOTD For Graduation Picture

Friday 9 November 2007 @ 12:37 am

I woke up extra early today because it was my baby sister’s big day - her graduation picture day. Well, ya know I’m not a morning person for sure, but I really did try!

Here’s what I did for my baby sis ( who is not a baby anymore, I guess. ). Only the best for her - mineral makeup ! I don’t want to be hurting her baby skin that I wish was mine!

1. First, I applied moisturizer on her since her skin seemed to be dry on some areas.
2. Second, I applied a mix of Monave Hyeyeon and Caroline Concealer Foundation using a flat top brush to ensure that her foundation would stay put all throughout the day. She told me she was having a speech practice before having her shot taken, and I am not taking any chances.

An Egyptian Mineral Makeup Look for Halloween

Tuesday 6 November 2007 @ 10:40 pm

I’ve always, always been fascinated of Egyptian civilization; of the pyramids and its treasures and of the classic beauty of Nefertiti. And not to mention, Cleopatra. So when a famous non-MMU makeup brand launched one of its latest collections, I just can’t help but be held in wonder on the way Egyptians did their makeup. From a little research on the web I came up with some info:

Monave Multi-Purpose Minerals : Sizzling Sultry Swatches

Thursday 27 September 2007 @ 10:49 pm

It is one of the few instances wherein I would courageously grab my camera to take swatches - for the longest time, I have been frustrated in taking good pictures and not all have come out the way I want them to be. I even got myself a DSLR, and to my dismay, I couldn’t let it work my way, so there, it goes to my sister who is studying photography next semester ( yay, maybe I could make her take pictures next time. ) Thank goodness, this “photoshoot” of some swatches of the latest Sultry Collection ( though some are not ) of Monave Minerals have come out just fine - using my trusty point and shoot camera ( that I swear I’ll never take for granted, ever again. ) Continue Reading »

Mineral Makeup Review : Lily Lolo Minerals

Wednesday 26 September 2007 @ 10:46 pm

Prelude : This is Nikki’s first time to feature her FOTD on The Mineral Makeup Blog. I say, read on to see how gorgeous she is! - The Mineral Makeup Girl

One of the mineral makeup companies based in the United Kingdom is Lily Lolo. I was lucky enough to try it out a few months ago. Their sample sizes are very generous and they all came in 5 gram jars filled to the brim except for blushes and eye shadows which came in baggies. I got the olive tones in Sahara and Butterscotch since these were described as having strong yellow undertones as compared to their warm shades which are peach. Their foundations have light to medium coverage and are Bismuth-free so no itchies for me. The finish is not matte (no kaolin clay) yet not shiny either. There wasn’t that much difference in the shades I got and both looked good on me so I just mixed them up. I topped it off with their finishing powders in Flawless Matte (Kaolin and mica) and Shine Away (ground clay). It lasted fairly well on me for a whole day most probably due to the finishing powder’s oil-control properties.

Mineral Makeup Experiment : Pressing Minerals

Tuesday 18 September 2007 @ 10:42 pm

I mentioned in my last article that Nikki, our latest addition to the talented mineral makeup blog writers here, has a penchant for MIY ( make-it-yourself ), and her latest project? Pressing her loose minerals! She’s quite outdone herself for the pictures of her pressed minerals are beautiful!

One thing that turns off some people with trying (or sticking with) mineral makeup is its form. Most are in loose powder form which makes application a bit messy especially for beginners. There is also difficulty in traveling with it or bringing it along for touch ups because it is bulky, requiring more tools and pots inside your makeup bag. Because of this, some mineral makeup companies are now coming up with their own lines of pressed minerals. Continue Reading »

Mineral Makeup 911: My Minerals Wreaked Havoc!

Thursday 23 August 2007 @ 9:58 pm

It’s great that some of the readers of The Mineral Makeup Blog have taken time to post in their comments, suggestions, recommendations, and even problems. Here’s what caught my eye as I was approving my comments a few days back. By the way, if you have a question, or a concern, please do email me at themineralmakeup at gmail dot com. I answer!

Back to our commenter’s question/request,

Well Hi everyone, I used Bare Minerals for 2 years before I realized it was the actual makeup making my skin just completely go haywire. (I was on different medicines/circumstancess) I had flawless skin, now it’s kinda rough looking, with some pock marks, not many. I had cystic acne from the Bismuth I think in the foundation. Mineral Makeup Girl I will be interested when you have your post up. I am extremely aggravated that I spent that much money on a misleading product not to mention damaging. And yes I am an organic consumer, I believe in all this hype, so I was disappointed when I found out, but this is unbelieveable. I went back to Mac and my skin is fine, never again, I don’t care if 24K gold is in it!! That trash won’t touch my face again… Does anyone know what happened or what I can do to improve? I got an acne scarring lotion and a home mircodermabrasion kit. Any other ideas? For everyone that is happy with it, I am glad that it did not cause as much damage to you as it did to me. These companies do have a good product, I just wish there would have been an external warning instead of the, “this will help your skin”. But stick with what works for you… Thanks for letting me vent, and please post with any help!! Thanks
