Mineral Makeup Look : Graduation Day FOTD

Wednesday 26 March 2008 @ 9:18 pm

For the very first time, I am sharing an FOTD that doesn’t feature yours truly, but my little sister who just graduated from her culinary arts course. The Mineral Makeup Girl once did her little sister’s makeup too! Isn’t that just sweet, big sisters primping and prettifying the li’l ones! :D

When my sister told me maybe I should do her makeup on graduation day, I was totally clueless. Sure, I did attempt to put makeup on her once, like a few years ago, and it didn’t turn out so well. Much that she almost didn’t want me to touch her face ever again! Lol. I guess she changed her mind seeing how often I wear mineral makeup these days.

I have my own ideas. But in playing makeup artist , I made it a point to ask her what look she was going for and what colors she had in mind. Since the event was set a little after lunch, she didn’t want it to be too dark, or smokey or over-the-top. She was aiming for something in neutrals/coppers that would complement her floral kimono dress and rich medium skin tone. I let her pick the colors from my makeup box, mostly in neutrals, golds and coppers. Two nights before, we sort of “practiced” the look so as not to take too much time when I am to actually do her makeup.

Presenting my sister:

And this was taken after, not before the ceremony since we were running late! Here’s her EOTD:

Mineral Makeup Review : Battle of the Sealants

Tuesday 25 March 2008 @ 7:38 pm

Ever had trouble making mineral eye shadows last long on your lids? I do. My lids are very oily compared with the rest of my face. Usually in 2-3 hours any kind of eye shadow creases on me. Thanks to a very good primer I’ve been using I have solved my problem (but that’s another story and not mineral makeup related). I envy those ladies who can dry-line with mineral pigments without having smudges or fading later on.

I am going to compare 3 sealants used to transform mineral pigments as liners. They are: Eye shadow Sealant (sold by most mineral makeup companies), Milan Gelle Drops and Aromaleigh Indelible Sealant.

Mineral Makeup 911: My Minerals Wreaked Havoc!

Thursday 23 August 2007 @ 9:58 pm

It’s great that some of the readers of The Mineral Makeup Blog have taken time to post in their comments, suggestions, recommendations, and even problems. Here’s what caught my eye as I was approving my comments a few days back. By the way, if you have a question, or a concern, please do email me at themineralmakeup at gmail dot com. I answer!

Back to our commenter’s question/request,

Well Hi everyone, I used Bare Minerals for 2 years before I realized it was the actual makeup making my skin just completely go haywire. (I was on different medicines/circumstancess) I had flawless skin, now it’s kinda rough looking, with some pock marks, not many. I had cystic acne from the Bismuth I think in the foundation. Mineral Makeup Girl I will be interested when you have your post up. I am extremely aggravated that I spent that much money on a misleading product not to mention damaging. And yes I am an organic consumer, I believe in all this hype, so I was disappointed when I found out, but this is unbelieveable. I went back to Mac and my skin is fine, never again, I don’t care if 24K gold is in it!! That trash won’t touch my face again… Does anyone know what happened or what I can do to improve? I got an acne scarring lotion and a home mircodermabrasion kit. Any other ideas? For everyone that is happy with it, I am glad that it did not cause as much damage to you as it did to me. These companies do have a good product, I just wish there would have been an external warning instead of the, “this will help your skin”. But stick with what works for you… Thanks for letting me vent, and please post with any help!! Thanks

Mineral Makeup Afficionado Joyce has been roadtesting minerals left to right, and has found a gem in Milan’s Oil at Bay. Here’s her entry about it!

I tried Milan Minerals Oil at Bay or as I fondly called OAB, and I was stunned. It really controlled my oilies. Ever since then, I have been raving about it! I enabled some of my girlfriends and they too attest to its effectivity.

Blush of the Moment: Milan’s Playground

Friday 27 July 2007 @ 4:18 pm

The Blush Vixen is back with a blush review of Milan’s Playground. Enjoy!-MMG

Having a lot of mineral makeup blushes means having a lot of options. I wake up day by day wondering what color will grace these cheeks of mine.

I’m usually adventurous when it comes to blushes. But one of the colors I secretly dread is purple. Come on! I can’t imagine myself sporting a purplish shade. Then came Milan’s Playground. I must haven’t been myself the time I ordered Playground. It looks okay alright, with the hints of what I thought was golden shimmer on its online swatch.

Playground

So when I got my package, the excitement I had almost went poof! What was I thinking getting what looked like a bland, violet shade? Milanminerals.com described it as “Our mauvy-pink shade is a compliment to any skintone.” To be honest, it looked plain uninteresting in the sample baggie that it didn’t cross my mind of ever using this. And so after a few months of sitting in my makeup box, I held my breath, got my blush brush and applied color to my cheeks. I was wearing a print dress with hues of purple, green and yellow. Playground seemed to be a perfect choice to complement my fun, no-fuss look for the day.
